Here are some helpful tips and tricks that our customers have submitted for using the HomeStar GPS.
TIP #1: Making sure you’ve stored a location properly.
Immediately after storing a location, go into FIND mode. The HomeStar Pocket™ GPS should immediately flash the HOME sequence on the Directional Indicators.
TIP #2: Checking the quality of the GPS satellite signals.
When the HomeStar Pocket™ GPS is in the IDLE mode, go into FIND mode and stand still. If you have good quality satellite signals, the WALK sequence should flash steadily. If satellite signals are poor, instead of a steady WALK sequence, the HomeStar Pocket™ GPS will flash a Directional Indicator every once in a while, as if you were suddenly walking.
TIP #3: Cut down on the time you wait finding satellites before you store a location.
In my car before I arrive at my destination, I turn on my HomeStar Pocket™ GPS to give it time to find satellites before I get there. Then when I finally park my car, I’m ready to store my location right away without waiting.
TIP #4: Using your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS in a big city with lots of buildings.
Find an intersection to lock satellites and get pointed in the right direction with your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS. All GPS devices have difficulty finding satellites when you’re in a big city and surrounded by tall buildings. However, the way you use your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS is different than other products. Unlike other devices, you don’t need to continuously look at the HomeStar Pocket™ GPS to use it — you only need to get pointed in the right direction every once in a while while you’re walking. So when you’re in a big city and have difficulty finding satellites, wait until you find an intersection to get a better view of the sky.
TIP #5: “Teaching” your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS to find satellites faster.
The more times customers turn on their HomeStar Pocket™ GPS, the faster their HomeStars find satellites the next time. This is because each time they find satellites, their devices update satellite location information that is stored in memory — this gives their HomeStar Pocket™ GPS a headstart in looking for satellites the next time.
TIP #6: Conserve battery power.
Even though my HomeStar Pocket™ GPS automatically shuts off, I always shut off my HomeStar manually right after I store a location or don’t need it anymore to conserve battery power.
TIP #7: Charging your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS.
In a pinch, you can use your cell phone charger cord to charge up your HomeStar Pocket™ GPS.
